Feral Cat Tips and Tricks

Trap Cover Tip: Home Depot Leaf Bags!

As we all know, cats are curious creatures, but they can also be wary. They may be predators, but they are also small enough to be prey! Cats love secure hiding spots, like burrows, caves, and other small, dark places. Have-a-Heart traps can be scary, the wire is cold, and there are no sides to make a cat feel safe inside, or want to go inside at all. Home Depot's paper leaf bags are the perfect size to fit around a standard cat-sized trap, and being a paper bag, it will also disguise the trap for trap-savvy cats! It also protects the cat from the weather while trappers collect the traps, and keeps any messes contained. Another alternative is to simply cover the top of the trap with a towel or sheet, which can help calm the cat by not letting them see what is going on.

Trash Can Cat House

Here is an awesome idea for a feral cat shelter. It is a secret shelter to keep neighbors, landlords etc... off your back.

The hidden feral cat house! Landlords, and nosey neighbors will never know that this garbage pail is really an insulated, warm, cozy safe haven for ferals at risk. Easy to make and inconspicuous. Sometimes we have to think outside the box! And of course this one never gets wheeled to the curb!
